Cookie guidelines

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that may be stored on your computer or other device when you visit a website. They are generally used to make websites work, to keep track of your movements within the website, to remember your login details, and so on.

Numerous websites and servers use cookies. Many cookies contain a so-called cookie ID. A cookie ID is a unique identifier of the cookie. It consists of a character string through which websites and servers can be assigned to the specific internet browser in which the cookie was stored. This enables the visited websites and servers to distinguish the individual browser of the data subject from other internet browsers that contain other cookies. A specific internet browser can be recognised and identified using the unique cookie ID. Cookies and similar tools can be used to personalise the content offered to website visitors or to more efficiently deliver that content. For example, location cookies can be used to select the optimum route for web traffic in order to deliver content more quickly.

2. How does Argus use cookies?

The Argus Media Germany GmbH (“Argus” and “we”, “us” or “our”) website and content platform at www.omr.de (“Content Platform”) uses cookies to

  • recognise users and distinguish between visitors;
  • tailor the website and content platform to your needs and preferences;
  • monitor and manage use of the website and platform; and
  • maintain and improve availability and functionality of the website and the Content Platform.

By using cookies, Argus can recognise and provide users of the website and Content Platform with more user-friendly services that would not be possible without the cookie setting. This includes delivering more relevant content by understanding a person’s preferences and interests based on their online activity.

A cookie can be used to optimise the information and offers on our website and the Content Platform in the interests of the user. As already mentioned, cookies enable Argus to recognise the users of our website and the Content Platform. The purpose of this recognition is to make it easier for users to use our website and the Content Platform. The user of a website that uses cookies, for example, does not always have to enter their access data every time they visit the website, because this is done by the website and the cookie stored on the user's computer system.

Insofar as the use of cookies involves the processing of your personal data, this data processing is carried out on the basis of our legitimate interest in accordance with Article 6 paragraph 1 letter f GDPR for the above-mentioned purposes. Cookies that are not required for the functionality of the website or the Content Platform are only used if you have given us your explicit consent in accordance with Article 6 paragraph 1 letter a GDPR.

Visitors to the website and Content Platform can refuse or prevent the setting of cookies at any time by means of a corresponding setting of the internet browser used and thus permanently object to the setting of cookies.

Furthermore, cookies that have already been set can be deleted at any time using an internet browser or other software programs. This is possible in all common internet browsers. If the person concerned deactivates the setting of cookies in the internet browser used, under certain circumstances not all functions of our website or Content Platform can be used fully, and settings made by the user may be lost.

If users do not set their browser(s) to refuse cookies, cookies that are technically required will automatically be issued when the website and Content Platform are used or upon logging on to our website and Content Platform. Other cookies are only used if you have given us your consent via our cookie banner. You can withdraw your consent at any time. To withdraw your consent for receiving these cookies, please delete the cookies from your own device and update browser settings to control which types of cookies can be set in future. This may need to be done separately in each browser you use, for example; Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or internet explorer.
